Commissioners Voting on Dallas County Budget Today
For months, Dallas County commissioners have been quarelling about budget cuts and tax rates. Today, they'll vote on a budget that calls for cuts in every department in order to bridge a 60-million-dollar shortfall. Commissioners are likely to approve a proposed tax rate hike to add a penny-and-a-half to the current rate. That would add 18-dollars to average home-owners tax bill. Even with the tax increase, the budget calls for downsizing amounting to nearly 200 positions, including 80 deputy contables.
