Commission Being Set Up for Dallas Homeless

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings announced the formation of a commission to find a long-term housing plan for thousands of homeless.

A number of appointed people at the city and county level will assess effective ways to find stable housing and adequate assistance for the homeless in Dallas.

"You can't just warehouse people. We need more than just places to put people," said Dallas city councilman Scott Griggs. "We need the right program in place, and that's going to take money."

Mayor Rawlings estimated the city spends about $10 million on homeless and housing matters.

The homeless commission will begin in August and will determine how much more spending will be needed.
