Cold Weather Creates Family Dilemmas Across North Texas
LAKE HIGHLANDS (CBSDFW.COM) - It seems, of all things, cold weather is creating family dilemmas across North Texas.
"We usually battle it out in the morning," said Emily Costas.
Emily and her husband Chad, who live in Lake Highlands, each have jobs and their two kids go to school. So it's easy to see that diplomacy is frequently used when deciding who goes to work and who stays home with the kids.
"We really look at the calendar and to see who has the most important thing on that calendar, and we both have the most important thing then it's who has the most understanding situation," Emily said.
"We just kind of trade off," Chad Costas added, simply.
There aren't any arguments at Joslyn Taylor's household, though. Taylor, who lives in the same neighborhood as the Costas family, works from home while her kids are in school.
"It's been incredibly challenging to try to do conference calls and be totally focused on work and at the same time trying to mitigate fights between the kids and keeping them busy and fixing them lunch," she said.
Her husband, Bryan, also works from home. Perfect situation, right? Both can work and take their two girls in at the same time. Not true, they said.
"You can't just tell the 4-year-old, 'hey I got a call. Can you be quiet for daddy.' When you tell them you have a call, it generally causes more problems," Bryan Taylor said.
Both the Costas and Taylor families said negotiating and prioritizing play a key role. But if North Texas sees more snow days, deciding who stays and who goes may come down to a coin toss.
