Cold Rain, A Little Ice/Snow
Near 80° yesterday, low 70's today. Tomorrow morning? A feel-like temperature in the 20's. Yea, big changes in the weather on the way.
We had rain move in this afternoon. Most of the heavier rain will fall over the northern half and east of the Metroplex tonight and overnight. Expect a few thunderstorms:
Look to the northwest corner at Wichita Falls as we compare temperatures from 3pm today to 6pm today. In just three hours temperatures plunged into the 30's:
This cold air sweeps into the metro area after midnight. A sometimes heavy rain will be occurring along the front. We are not going to have severe weather but a few thunderstorms will be in the mix. The rain will be around in the morning but leave quickly to the east:
With that cold rain wind chills will be in the 20's in the morning. We'll only warm up to the low 40's with a northwest wind blowing 15-25 mph. We'll have the sun come back out in the afternoon but it won't warm us up much:
Monday night a winter storm moves off the Southern Range of New Mexico and into the Panhandle. Unlike the all the winter threats so far this season, this time its cold enough to call it just snow. Cold enough but sorry to say that moisture will be insufficient to produce much of a snow event:
If we get a snow band to set up we'll see maybe up to a 1/2" of the white stuff to the west of the Metroplex, from Mineral Wells to Stephenville:
I doubt it's going to have enough impact to make school superintendents around the Dallas/Fort Worth area think about not running the buses Tuesday morning. By late morning any snow that falls would be quickly gone with highs in the 50's by afternoon.
Tuesday morning will be the coldest one in the week ahead and the only one (in the metro area) where we get below zero. The clouds will be around most of the day Tuesday but as winds turn to the west we'll have highs reach into the 50's.
We'll get to some warmer weather heading into the weekend before another cold front arrives on Sunday. Rain chances return as well; they start late Friday and pick up on Saturday:
