City Council Approves $1 Million DPD Lawsuit Settlement

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas City Council members voted Wednesday to settle a federal lawsuit that stemmed from a police chase.

Council members unanimously approved a $1.15 million settlement for the mother of a man struck and killed by a Dallas Police Department squad car earlier this year.

Virginia Bradford sued the city of Dallas, blaming officers for her son's death.

Back in April, police were chasing Fred Bradford, who was riding a bicycle. Authorities said that they were chasing him in the Fair Park area because they saw him acting suspiciously. One police officer was running after Fred while another pursued him in a squad car. Fred Bradford was struck by that car and died about three weeks later from his injuries.

A later investigation showed officers delayed calling an ambulance for Bradford and at first claimed someone else hit him. The officers were fired; one was arrested for criminally negligent homicide but has not been indicted.
