Boise St. Closes On No. 3 TCU in BCS Poll
Irving (Sports Network) - With three of the four unbeatens idle this week, there was little change to the BCS rankings with Oregon still edging Auburn for the top spot.
Both Oregon (.9764) and Auburn (.9682) were off this past week, as was No. 3 TCU (.8995), which had its lead over Boise State (.8860) narrowed by a slim margin after the Broncos rolled to a 51-0 victory over Fresno State last Friday.
Those are the only four undefeated programs remaining, with the Ducks and Tigers controlling their own fate for a trip to the BCS national title game in Glendale, Arizona, on January 10, 2011.
Oregon, still the No. 1 team in the Harris Interactive and USA Today polls, hosts Arizona on Friday before a date at Oregon State on December 4th. Auburn, the top team according to the computers, has its annual Iron Bowl battle at Alabama on Friday before playing for the SEC title against South Carolina.
If either team slips up, it appears Boise State, if it can get by Nevada and Utah State in the next two weeks, will likely pass TCU and play for the title.
LSU (.8193), Stanford (.7763) and Wisconsin (.7688) each won convincingly this past Saturday to remain in the fifth through seven spots.
Nebraska (.4423), after losing a 9-6 defensive struggle with Texas A&M, dropped from eighth to 15th, allowing Ohio State (.7148) to move into the No. 8 position.
Oklahoma State (.6815) and Michigan State (.6063) rounded out the top-10.
The BCS system, in place since 1998, is computed by averaging the percentage totals of the Harris Interactive poll, USA Today poll and computer rankings.
Last season, the system pitted Alabama and Texas against one another, with the Crimson Tide rolling to a 37-21 victory.
