Baylor To Name New Stadium For McLane Family
WACO (AP) — Baylor University says its new football stadium will be called McLane Stadium in honor of alumnus Drayton McLane Jr. and his family.
McLane, former Houston Astros owner, is a 1958 Baylor grad and former regents chairman.
It was announced in March 2012 that McLane's family had given the school the largest capital gift ever — more than $20 million — toward the stadium, which will open next season.
The sixth-ranked Bears make their first Bowl Championship Series appearance when they play No. 15 UCF in the Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday night.
The 45,000-seat, $260 million stadium is now under construction on a 93-acre at the intersection of Interstate 35 and the Brazos River. The McLane gift propelled the school to successful fundraising for the stadium.
