Battle Brewing Over Land In Uptown

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A battle is brewing in Uptown over a very valuable sliver of land on Howell Street.

It's covered in 100-year-old trees and cottages.

Developers want it to build apartments, but area residents say, "no way!"

"I would not like to see that," said Michael Sanders who lives across the street from the proposed site.

The developers, Mill Creek Residential, confirms if the proposed rezoning goes through, they'll build a six-story building with more than 200 apartments.

"I think the area is to congested and with the development that we have they need to just slow down for a minute," said Sanders.

Diana Oliver has lived in one of the cottages for nine yars.  She says, "To me it's just an unnecessary thing and it will be regretted  once it's done.

Oliver says twice in the past few years neighbors have complained and won.  But this time she thinks their luck will run out.

"It makes me sick. It really does," said Oliver.

In a statement, Mill Creek Residential said in part, "We appreciate the feedback of all residents in the neighborhood and will continue to address any concerns brought up throughout the planning process."

The Dallas City Council will vote on the future of the land in the next few months.
