Back To Heat & Weekend Storm Chances
SUNNY, WINDY, WARM FRIDAY
The winds over much of North Texas will be from the south at 15-25 mph with gusts into the 30s. However, the winds west of the Metroplex are expected to be strong enough to warrant a WIND ADVISORY from noon to 8 PM. Winds will be 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph.
The strong winds with dry air prompt a RED FLAG WARNING for areas south and west of the Metroplex from 1 PM through 8 PM where relative humidity is expected to dip below 30% this afternoon.
OVERNIGHT FORECAST
The winds ease somewhat, but expect them to stay on throughout the night. Skies remain mostly clear with clouds developing near or shortly after sunrise from Dallas eastward. Lows remain very mild in the upper 60s. Winds: S 15-25 mph.
SATURDAY'S FORECAST
The cloud deck should linger to the east into the early afternoon then mix out. A few spot showers are possible from the cloud deck in the morning hours. With mostly sunny skies expected by the afternoon, temps will warm into the mid-80s again and winds will continue to gust in from the south 15-25 mph. The atmosphere will remain capped through most of the day, so storms will struggle to fire until an approaching cold front arrives during the evening hours. Saturday afternoon storm chances: 20%.
SATURDAY EVENING/OVERNIGHT FORECAST
The cold front will ease southward and bring rain chances at 60%. The latest timing looks to be around 10 PM for storms to fire along and behind the cold front. The initial onset of the front we give us our best shot at severe storms from the Metroplex to the northeast. Thinking mainly Sherman, Bonham, Paris to McKinney, Greenville, Sulphur Springs.
Damaging winds along with coin sized hail will be the primary issues. Right now it looks like we will not have strong enough dynamics for the tornado threat to be elevated.
SUNDAY'S FORECAST
A better coverage (60%) of showers and storms is expected behind the cold front during the morning hours Sunday 3AM to 11AM. These storms will likely remain below severe limits, but locally heavy rain and lighting are possible. Rain ending in the afternoon hours as cooler northwest winds take over keeping temps in the 60s…maybe cooler.
