Back To A Summer-Like Rut

ISOLATED SHOWERS & STORMS THIS EVENING

Most of North Texas today has enjoyed a quiet, warm Tuesday, but a precious few are seeing a little rain.  There have been tiny, very widely spaced showers and storms, mainly south of I-20 today.  We are expecting the coverage to remain very low, with those seeing rain only seeing for a few minutes before the shower dissipates.   Expect all rain to die off after sundown tonight.

SUMMER RETURNS

A ridge of high pressure in the upper levels will begin its build back  into North Texas throughout the rest of the week.  Our rain chances will thus evaporate altogether and with plenty of sunshine we should see temperatures soar well above normal through early next week at least.  Temperatures should be 5-10° above normal for the next week.

SLIGHT RAIN CHANCE NEXT WEEK

A cold front will be moving through the Rockies over the weekend and approach the Red River by late Sunday into Monday.  There will be a few showers and thunderstorms along the front that will try to form in North Texas on Monday.  The front looks to run out of steam by the time it gets here, so not expecting a huge rain chance at this time.  It appears most of the rain will stay to our north.

AIR POLLUTION CONCERNS FOR WEDNESDAY

The Texas Commission of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Watch - Level Orange for Wednesday.  We are getting into the time of year where we will see more and more of these alerts issued for North Texas.  Ground level ozone pollution occurs frequently when there is abundant sunshine combined with light winds.  The light wind means that the pollution isn't dispersed in the atmosphere and can become a health issue.  Level Orange means the air will be unhealthy for the "sensitive group"...the very young, the very old, and those with respiratory ailments, such as asthma.

MAY UPDATE

We are half way through May and the bottom line is that it has been overall a warm and dry month.  And with the next 7-10 days also looking warm and dry, the entire month could end up the same way.  This could mean DFW will find itself in the top 10 warmest Mays this year...something we did in March and April.
