The iconic Chevrolet Corvette was first introduced to the public in 1953 at the GM Motorama Show as a concept car. Little did they know it would become an American Classic.
This weekend the National Corvette Restorers Society will fill the Embassy Suites Frisco Conference Center with classic and restored Corvettes from all over the United States.
"We are going to have about ninety Corvettes from 1954 on up to the present 2016 Corvettes here" said National Corvettes Restorers Society Texas President Bob Demmel.
Judging will be based on how accurately restored the Corvettes are compared to how they rolled out of the factories in Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky.
The cars have continuously been in production since Corvette #1 rolled out on June 30, 1953 with the exception of 1984. That was the year the California emission controls were suddenly changed and Chevrolet was not ready for the more stringent standards.
In 1953 the Corvette was available in only one color scheme, Polo White with a red interior. Since then they have seen 608 official paint schemes. It was only in 1959 that the turquoise soft top was available however.
Door open to the public Saturday and Sunday at 9 am at the Embassy Suites Frisco Conference Center for the National Corvette Restorers Society Lone Star Regional.
