Arlington In High Gear To Be Ready For Super Bowl

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - As countown to kickoff continues, Cowboys Stadium is being transformed from home of America's Team, to stage for a worldwide event.

Steel bars, lumber and rock are piled in one of the stadium's massive parking lots as workers assemble new event venues and stages.  Arlington workers work high above traffic installing new stoplights and traffic control devices.

But there is a neighborhood just west of the stadium that is part of the Superbowl experience too. Paint peels from the aging homes. On one building the roof has collapsed and been replaced by a bright blue tarp. This tired neighborhood near the stadium will get a facelift thanks to a program called Kickoff to Rebuld.  The NFL sanctioned program will bring in an army of volunteers to rebuild the homes, restore the neighborhood, and leave a legacy long after the superbowl leaves town.

"I think its quite a blessing for our neighborhood to be picked," said Joycelyn McDaniel, a neighborhood homeowner. "There are some houses that are really getting quite a bit of work done and the people need it."

And, Arlington has opened its new, five-point two million dollar airport terminal. Its designed to handle more than a hundred corporate jets a day. Its a project that took off when arlington landed the superbowl.

"I think we're seeing an evolution in Arlington," said Mayor Robert Cluck. "Its not all Super Bowl related. We were going to do this project. But that certainly kicked us in the pants to do it sooner."
