'American Idiot' Now Playing At Dallas' Winspear Opera House

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The latest Lexus Broadway Series' production has hit town - American Idiot. It debuted on Broadway in 2010 and shocked the theater community with it's innovative and ground breaking imagery and staging.

The one act musical is based on the band Green Day's album of the same name and was an immediate hit with all ages. The story centers on three young men, Johnny, Will, and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee repressive suburbia and their parents' harsh restrictions. The pair look for meaning in life and decide to try out the freedom and excitement of the city.

One of the stars, Leslie McDonel, is a proud native Dallasite and is thrilled to be back home!  She was able to visit with old friends and teachers at her alma mater Woodrow Wilson and said she credits the school for cheering her on and encouraging her to reach for her dreams.  Locally she has also appeared in productions at Casa Manana and Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth.

McDonel attended UT for a year before moving to New York City to enroll in The New School and quickly found success.  She starred in the Broadway production of American Idiot alongside one of Green Day's band members for over 1000 performances and say the great memories and experience will stay with her forever!

The fast paced, edgy musical continues at the AT&T Performing Arts Center through May 20th with good seats still available at all performances at the Winspear Opera House.
