Afternoon Forecast Update: Small rain chance for NTX

It is a warm and muggy afternoon, and there is a small chance of a few isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.

The storm chance is coming from what is leftover from last night's storms.

There is a little area of cyclonic flow near Granbury this afternoon.  This is called an MCV.  These little features develop after the release of energy from a complex of storms the night before.  If you saw the radar of Central Texas last night, you saw the large area of thunderstorms.  This little ball of energy got left over from that complex of storms and has drifted northward.

The low on the map below shows it's location this afternoon.

So what does this mean for our weather?  Well near that low and the weak stationary front that has developed there will be the chance of a few isolated thunderstorms.  Coverage likely won't be high, but isolated storms will be possible.

The main threat from these storms outside of lightning and heavy rain will be high winds.  There is the small possibility of a few landspouts as well.  Landspouts differ from tornadoes in that they are usually not very strong and don't last very long.  Just another fun feature of North Texas weather that we get to talk about.
