AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - Now that the legislative session has ended, Governor Greg Abbott said he will start his efforts to lure businesses to Texas.

When asked about the recent letter he sent to General Electric, which is considering moving its corporate headquarters out of Connecticut, Abbot said, "We haven't received a formal response. We are working on trying to set-up a meeting or establish greater communication with them."

Abbott said the new law he signed cutting the business franchise tax by 25 percent makes Texas even more business friendly. "GE is one of literally hundreds of businesses that we try to contact around the nation now because Texas has an even better product to sell to businesses thinking about relocating."

Abbott is unfazed about the pending ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that may declare state bans on same sex marriage unconstitutional. "Regardless of how that case turns out, because Texas is not a party to it, the Texas Constitution remains in effect and the Texas Constitution says that marriage is between one man and one woman," he said.

The Governor suggested the state could challenge the Supreme Court's ruling since the case doesn't deal directly with Texas' constitutional amendment.

He also cited federal and state laws guaranteeing an individual's freedom of religion including the federal and state Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Pastor Protection Act, which the Governor just signed.

The law protects clergy who won't conduct same sex marriages because they violate their beliefs. "There are a multitude of laws available for Texas to be able to seek relief from being forced to violate religious liberties and violate the First Amendment."

The Supreme Court's ruling is due by June 30, 2015.
