(CBSDFW.COM) - Ethan Couch's attorneys say he will be back in Fort Worth before his 19th birthday.

Couch's American lawyers say they understand the paperwork was filed in Mexico to terminate the on-going Mexican immigration proceedings.

The 18-year-old will return to the U.S. within the next few weeks, and will be at the hearing to transfer his juvenile probation to adult court, according to attorneys.

Couch has stayed in the custody of Mexican authorities since he and his mother were arrested in Puerto Vallarta late last month.

Tonya Couch was sent to Los Angeles before coming back to Fort Worth. She stands accused of helping her son avoid a probation appointment.

Ethan is accused of skipping the meeting. Prosecutors want his 10-year probation sentence in adult court so it doesn't expire on his 19th birthday in April.

Couch admitted to driving drunk when he killed four people. During his trial, a psychologist testified that Couch suffered from "affluenza," suggesting he was too rich and spoiled to understand the consequences of his actions.

Couch's attorneys had recently suggested that he may have been taken to Mexico against his will.
