A Very Cold Morning

The record low for this date is 21° set back in 1907, over a hundred years ago. Yes, it gets cold in November. Still, we should point out a few things about THIS mornings chill of 29°.

First off its now officially the end of the growing season. Our season this year ended up about 22 days shorter than the 30-year average for the metroplex (the last freeze of Spring hit on March 26th). This is also the EARLIEST FALL FREEZE since the year 2000.

This is the coldest morning since our last freeze and ties for the 3rd coldest morning we've had all year. This is the SECOND coldest November morning in the last decade, we got within 2° of tying that mark:

The arctic air mass has reached all the way down to south Texas and central Florida this morning. It brought the end of the growing season for most of the deep south. Across Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas and Mississippi:

We'll warm up to the low 50's this afternoon. Typical of November, this cold air will not stick around. We'll get very close to freezing temperatures tomorrow morning but warm to the 60's. Here is a look at the next several days:

As we head into the slight rain chances start to show up as we warm up. Weak upper-air distrubances from the west move overhead and react with the moisture air at the surface. This will produce a slight chance (20%) of rain for Friday morning and Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon we'll get into the 70's again with some strong south winds gusting over 30 mph:

On Sunday a cold front closes in. Before it gets here we'll have highs close to 80° that day. On the other side of the front we'll again have a dramatic drop of temperatures, highs will be in the mid-50's (and windy!).

Highs on Tuesday will likely be only in the 40's. Below you can see the extended shows the bounce of temperatures.

As we look down the  road it looks like the next threat of a freeze is next week on the 21st. The EURO forecast model puts the freeze line below the metroplex:
