FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 9-year-old boy died Sunday after drowning in an East Fort Worth apartment complex pool.
Willie Glasper was pronounced dead at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth Sunday night.
The call about the drowning came just after 6 p.m. at the Bridge Hollow Apartments on Bridge Street near Country Club Drive, according to MedStar.
Less than an hour later, firefighters and medics responded to another call - this one a near-drowning - involving a 3-year-old child at the Villas of Oak Hill Apartments on Via Villencia in Fort Worth.
Firefighters said the child was in a hot tub when an adult noticed the boy was unresponsive. A bystander who identified herself as a nurse reportedly did CPR on the child for about 30 seconds. The child was taken to Cooks Children's Medical Center by MedStar. His current condition is not known.
"The Fort Worth Fire Department would like to remind everyone that when people drown, they do so silently," the department said in late-evening statement. "When enjoying the water, be it the lake or the pool, always designate an adult to watch everyone in the water. Cell phones, magazines, and anything else that might distract should be left alone."
Before this weekend, Cook Children's officials had said they worked at least 10 separate drownings or near drownings last week. Last year 55 children nearly drowned, the hospital said.
