5,500-Year-Old Leather Shoe Found (Photo)
It may be the oldest leather shoe ever found. Researchers say the well-preserved footwear was found in a cave in the mountains of Armenia.
They say the shoe -- made from a single piece of leather, laced up the front and back, dates back about 5,500 years. It was found along with other evidence of human occupation. The shoe had been stuffed with grass, which dated to the same time as the leather of the shoe.
An archaeologist who led the research team says it's ``great luck'' to find something other than broken pots. He says a shoe gives more insight into day-to-day life. The researchers report their finding in PLoS One, a journal of the Public Library of Science.
