5 Animal-Induced Sports Injuries

Outside of horses, animals have little impact on the world of sports. But in some unfortunate cases, their impact is HUGE.

Here are five athletes who suffered injuries -- some serious -- at the hands of the animal kingdom.

1. Jadeveon Clowney

Clowney has suffered a number of injuries since entering the NFL as the No. 1 selection in the 2014 Draft: hernia surgery, a concussion, and season-ending microfracture surgery.

Add "dog bite" to that list.

SportsRadio 610 in Houston learned that Clowney was bitten on the right arm by teammate D.J. Swearinger's pit bull last week. Though a minor bite, the 22-year-old was transported to a Pearland emergency room.

Never stick your hand into a cage housing coyotes -- that seems like a solid life rule.

In 1985, the Rangers legend was bitten by a caged coyote and suffered an injury to his left hand.

He didn't miss any time.

3. Larry Walker

Fishing is relaxing, therapeutic, and safe -- right? Apparently not the latter.

Walker separated his shoulder during a weekend fishing trip near Vancouver.

That gives new meaning to the phrase "Gone: Fishing."

4. Martin Castrogiovanni

Rugby players are tough -- at least that's the perception.

The Italian rugby player recently missed multiple matches after being bitten in the nose by a friend's dog.

5. Derek Holland

Holland underwent microfracture surgery in January 2014, forcing the lefty to miss most of the 2014 season.

To make matters worse, the injury occurred while Holland was "clowning off" at home with his dog, a boxer named "Wrigley".

Holland and the Rangers didn't hide from the injury, instead making light of it with the above video Christmas card.
