3 White Settlement ISD Schools Lift Precautionary Lockdown
WHITE SETTLEMENT (CBSDFW.COM) – Three White Settlement ISD schools were under precautionary lockdown for about two hours Wednesday after a felon wandered out of a nearby treatment center.
District spokeswoman Desiree Coyle says the affected schools were Brewer Middle School, Mesa High School and Liberty Elementary. The lockdown was strictly precautionary, she stressed –– all it means is the doors were locked and outdoor activities are canceled. It was declared just after 10:30 a.m. and called off before 12:30 p.m.
Parents and authorized visitors could still enter through the front door of each campus, which were all being manned by security guards.
The individual in question was not currently serving a jail sentence, Coyle said, but he is a convicted felon. He walked out of the ADOBE Treatment Inc. outpatient center located at 701 S. Cherry Lane in White Settlement.
Brewer Middle School is about a half mile from the center, Mesa High is .3 miles away and Liberty is also about .3 miles away.
Coyles did not say what crime the man committed.
ADOBE, founded in 1994, is a rehabilitation center for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol dependency issues. It primarily serves "clients of the criminal justice system" but also helps the general public, according to its website.
The White Settlement treatment facility has room for 128 residents.
