3 Dallas Officers Injured By Bullet Fragments
DALLAS (AP) - Three Dallas police officers have been wounded by bullet fragments blamed on gunfire from a man who allegedly opened fire when authorities tried to enter an apartment.
Police say the officers suffered non-life threatening injuries Monday night when responding to a call about a shooting in the 8100 block of Scyene Circle.
At the time, unbeknown to officers, one man had been shot by an unknown suspect in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Another man helped the shooting victim inside an apartment.
Officers responding to the shooting had been told that a shooting victim was inside of the apartment. When no one inside would respond, officers kicked in the apartment door and that's when shots were fired.
Police spokesman Warren Mitchell says officers did not return fire and the suspect, 24-year-old Steven Ray Jones, later surrendered. Jones has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.
The shooting victim, Alundo Demar Carrol, who was laying injured inside the apartment, was taken to Baylor Medical Center Dallas and late Tuesday morning was listed in critical condition. Carrol was hit by a single gunshot that stuck him in both legs.
All three police officers were treated and released from Baylor in good condition.
