DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two fires broke out at almost the same time in both Dallas and Fort Worth on Monday morning, and each one left a person dead. These fatal blazes happened prior to 4:00 a.m. at homes on opposite sides of the Metroplex.

The first incident was reported at around 3:15 a.m. as Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to flames in the 2400 block of San Medina Avenue, in the eastern part of Dallas. Emergency crews arrived to find a detached garage that was burning. As they attacked the blaze, the body of an adult male was discovered inside of the charred structure.

The garage, located about 10 to 15 feet away from a one-story home, had been converted into a living space. The victim called the building his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The fire also caused minor damage to the nearby house. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.

Meanwhile, at about 3:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Clinton Avenue in Fort Worth, firefighters battled another large fire at a home that was converted into an apartment building. This location is not far from the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Intense flames and smoke were shooting through the building's roof when emergency workers first arrived at the scene, and one person was found dead.

Officials said that Monday morning's chilly temperatures made fighting the fire more difficult. "It begins to cause some issues with ice accumulation on the structure, on hoses," said Lt. Kyle Falkner with the Fort Worth Fire Department. "It doesn't hamper our operations, but it is additional concern for us."

The fire was under control within about 30 minutes. The American Red Cross was asked to come to the scene to help 10 people who have been displaced. The cause of this fire is also under investigation.
