LANCASTER (CBSDFW.COM) - Slapped by a substitute teacher. A North Texas mom says it happened to her 10-year-old son and now police are involved.

The boy says he was in class at the Life School charter school in Lancaster when he made a comment about homework. Then he says, out of nowhere, the substitute teacher's hand came across his face.

The incident involving the little boy, who we are not identifying, has left his mother, Candice, furious. "My heart dropped. It sunk," she said.

Candace, who only wants her first named used to protect her son's identity, says her sense of security surrounding the most important person in her life has now been rocked. "I've never slapped my son. Never. And I certainly don't send him to school to be abused."

According to the little boy, when the substitute told the class they had homework he remarked out loud that they, "never get homework when there's a sub." It was after that comment that he said he was slapped across the face.

"It's a violent act," Candice said. "I don't think if I slapped you in the face you'd be okay with it."

Life Schools sent a statement saying that they had conducted a thorough investigation and that administrators were, "…gathering incident reports and interviewing all parties involved, there is no conclusive evidence to support the allegation."

But, Lancaster police said they are investigating the incident and haven't released any documents or information yet, because the alleged crime involves a minor.

Candice wants the substitute gone, explaining that if her son was a problem it should have meant a trip to the principal's office - not being hit by an adult. "I'm not saying my son's an angel. Kids are kids. He's 10. But I don't think there's anything he could have done or said to justify being slapped."

Candice says police have taken pictures of her son's face and that he's given an official statement.

The little boy went back to school yesterday, but is now looking at education alternatives for next school year because of the trauma it's caused.
