1 Dead In Kaufman After Police Called To Check On Person's Welfare

KAUFMAN (CBSDFW.COM) -- One person is dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday afternoon after police were called to check on the individual's welfare.
According to Captain Ed Black of the Kaufman Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of Cates Dr. in reference to a "welfare concern." When officers attempted to enter the residence to check on the person, someone fired a shot.
Black said SWAT team officers were called in and attempted to make contact with the person for more than two hours without success.
He said SWAT entered the residence after firing tear gas into the building. Officers found the person dead inside.
The identity and sex of the victim were not released.
