FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — Police say one person died after a United States Postal Service semi-truck slammed into bridge support beams and caught on fire.

The semi-truck crashed near the Loop 820 and Highway 287 interchange in Fort Worth around 10 a.m. Sunday, Fort Worth Police Lt. Brandon Johnson said. The truck then caught fire, resulting in one death, Johnson said. Both directions of Loop 820 were closed while officials worked on clearing the scene.

Johnson said the cause of the crash is unknown, and the trailer was "90 percent empty."

Texas Department of Transportation is sending engineers to inspect the Highway 287 overpass to determine whether it's safe to open up again, Johnson said. Until then, the bridge will be closed.

Fort Worth police tweeted that one side of 820 was reopened around 3:15 p.m.

At 7:08 p.m., Fort Worth police said both directions of Loop 820 have been reopened. Earlier, Johnson said the wreck was physically blocking the lanes on southbound 820.
