DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Protests against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump were relatively peaceful in Dallas with the exception of one man arrested for disorderly conduct.

"It was crazy. The cops were trying to divide us. We were all one and the horses just got in between us," said one protestor about a clash they had with mounted patrol officers.

A total of seven people were removed from Gilley's on Southside Lamar when Trump supporters and protestors squared off in a war of words.

When the exchanges started to escalate, Dallas police would form a human chain and bulldoze through the crowd, often bringing someone out on the other side unwillingly.

Some protestors accused police of acting with a heavy hand.

"I think the way DPD handled it was overboard. There were cops for six blocks in every direction. Then they pushed a lot of civil protesters away all the way to the sidewalk and then block them and think it was complete martial law," one protestor told CBS11 News.

But for supporters inside the air conditioned venue, it was an enjoyable experience.

"We just left the Trump rally. It was great; we had a great time!"

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said he's proud of the job his officers did Thursday.
