"When someone is in crisis, they need someone to talk to, and what better person for them to talk to than a therapist?" Cook County Sheriff's Office clinician Patrick Kelley said.

A CPD officer is in serious but stable condition, and a suspect is in critical condition following the shooting.

"To me, it's an expression of disrespect. And it's an expression of the breakdown of trust between police officers and residents in communities," said Arthur Lurigio, a criminologist and professor at Loyola University.
Chicago saw one of the most violent Memorial Day weekends in years – with 50 people shot and nine of them killed.
