Chris Holmstrom

Chris Holmstrom is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and the friendly face viewers wake up to on CBS LA, anchoring weekday mornings from 5-7 a.m. and again at 10 a.m.

Since joining CBS LA in 2018, Chris has become a trusted source for breaking news and compelling storytelling. Whether he's covering California's wildfires, the George Floyd protests, or reporting live outside the courthouse during Britney Spears' conservatorship battle, Chris brings compassion, clarity, and a deep commitment to getting the story right.

Born in Watertown, South Dakota, and raised in Gilbert, Arizona, Chris has lived around the world thanks to his father's service in the U.S. Army, with stops in Germany and Panama. Those early experiences helped shape his curiosity about people and their stories.

Chris launched his broadcasting career in Tri-Cities, Washington, before moving on to Tucson, Arizona, and Portland, Oregon. He's now proud to call Los Angeles home.

With roots that are Panamanian, Swedish, and Norwegian, Chris embraces the diversity of his background. He's an active member of both the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, and he's passionate about representation in media.

Chris is a proud graduate of Northern Arizona University (Go Lumberjacks!), where he earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in International Communication.

Outside the newsroom, Chris loves soaking up the sunshine and energy of Southern California. You'll often find him hiking, enjoying beach days, trying new restaurants, or spending time with his partner and their adorable dog, Julia.
