Andres Gutierrez

Andres Gutierrez is a CBS News reporter based in Las Vegas.

Gutierrez is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who joined CBS News Detroit in September 2022 and helped launch their news operation in January 2023. Since then, he has reported on major national stories, including the mass shooting at Michigan State University and the historic six-week strike by the United Auto Workers, where he was the first local television reporter to interview the union's president before contract talks expired. 

Gutierrez also provided in-depth coverage of the landmark trials of James and Jennifer Crumbley, who became the first parents in the U.S. to be held criminally responsible for a school shooting committed by their child. Before his role in Detroit, Gutierrez spent nearly nine years as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was instrumental in covering breaking news, criminal justice issues, and societal concerns, earning him two Emmy Awards.    Earlier in his career, he worked at KXAS-TV in Dallas, where he covered nationally significant stories such as the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, and the death of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.

A New York City native and graduate of New York University, Gutierrez began his career with NBC News, MSNBC, and WNBC-TV as a work-study scholar with the Emma L. Bowen Foundation.

He is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
