Earlier in his career, he worked at KXAS-TV in Dallas, where he covered nationally significant stories such as the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, and the death of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.
A New York City native and graduate of New York University, Gutierrez began his career with NBC News, MSNBC, and WNBC-TV as a work-study scholar with the Emma L. Bowen Foundation.
He is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
