Train hits, kills person on tracks in Berkeley
A train hit and killed a pedestrian on the tracks in Berkeley on Monday morning, authorities said.
The incident happened just north of Hearst Avenue between Second and Fourth streets and involved a Union Pacific freight train, which was stopped just south of Camelia Street.
A spokesperson for Union Pacific characterized the person who was hit as a trespasser and said the collision happened at about 11:45 a.m.
Berkeley police and fire units closed that portion of Hearst Avenue following the collision.
