49ers, Dallas Cowboys Renew Storied Rivalry In 1st Game Of 2014 NFL Schedule

ARLINGTON, Texas (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys will renew their storied rivalry in the first game of the 2014 NFL regular season.

The 'Team of the 80s" and the "Team of the 90s" will kick off the 2014 season at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas at 3:25 p.m. Central/1:25 Pacific time.

With the NFL's rotating schedule among conference divisions, the Cowboys and 49ers play against each other in the regular season once every three years.

Currently, the Cowboys have a three-game winning streak against the 49ers, with the last meeting being a 27-24 Dallas victory at Candlestick Park on September 18, 2011.

The bitter rivalry between the two teams began in the 1970s when the Cowboys knocked the 49ers out of the playoffs in three straight years beginning with the 1970 season.

The 1981 NFC Championship between the two teams featured "The Catch" by 49ers receiver Dwight Clark and launched the Joe Montana-led 49ers to their 1980s dynasty.

The 1990's saw the Cowboys and 49ers battle in three straight NFC Championship games with Dallas winning two and the 49ers winning one, each winner going on to win the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys and the 49ers are tied for second-most Super Bowl wins with five, behind the Pittsburgh Steelers' six wins.

The all-time series between the two teams is tied, 16-16-1.
