Opponents Criticize San Francisco District Attorney For 'Conflict of Interest'
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The decision by San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon to not investigate the "Run, Ed, Run" campaign is being heavily criticized by his opponents in the district attorney's race.
Gascon said he has insufficient evidence to proceed with an investigation of Progress for All, the group that orchestrated the campaign.
Three of his opponents, Sharmin Bock, Bill Fazio and David Onek, have criticized the decision, saying he was wrong to not refer the case from the get go.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
"All three of us really believe that George Gascon had a clear conflict of interest in this case," said Onek.
The three cite Gascon's political connections to the possible targets of the probe, Rose Pak and Willie Brown.
Gascon said he decided not to investigate allegations that the "Run, Ed, Run" campaign violated campaign finance laws after being told by State Attorney General Kamala Harris that he had no conflict of interest in the case.
