Oakley Homeowner, His Son Assaulted By Teen After High-Speed Chase On Highway 4; Suspect Arrested
OAKLEY (CBS SF) -- A brave father and son duo helped police capture a teenage suspect who led authorities on a high-speed chase on Highway 4 Wednesday.
The high-speed chase on state Highway 4 early Tuesday morning ended in Oakley after the suspect entered the residence and was confronted by the homeowner, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers arrested the driver, later identified as Isaiah Davis, 18, on suspicion of evading police, stealing a car and receiving stolen property, CHP Officer John Fransen said.
CHP officers attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 4, according to the CHP.
Davis, who was driving a Ford Fusion, allegedly sped away from the officer at speeds of approximately 100 mph and headed west on Highway 4.
Davis exited the highway on Laurel Road in Oakley, turned onto Empire Avenue and then turned onto the Delta De Anza Regional Trail before ramming his car through a series of gates, CHP officers said.
The car got stuck at a gate leading back onto Laurel Road, so Davis got out of the car and ran to the road, where CHP officers said he jumped a fence and entered a residential neighborhood.
CHP officer chased Davis on foot but he tried to escape by entering a home on Kali Court in Oakley, according to the CHP.
Fransen said the homeowner was inside and confronted Davis, where they got into a physical altercation.
"When the helicopter had left and it started getting quiet, I had some sort of notion that have we checked everywhere and walked out in the garage and took a look over, and there's the fellow standing there," homeowner Chris Chapman said.
Davis allegedly struck the homeowner with a wrench, causing some small cuts on his head, Fransen said.
"He had me around the neck and was trying to keep me from raising the awareness of everyone in the house," Chris said.
The homeowner's son intervened and was able to defend his father with a piece of wood, Fransen said.
"It's hard to watch; your dad, your sole protector is sitting there getting hurt on, and you know he's in trouble," Canyon Chapman, Chris' son said.
Davis ran out of the house and back onto Laurel Road, where Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies caught up with him and took him into custody, according to the CHP.
