Mystery Fish Caught In Delta Looked Like Piranha

STOCKTON (CBS SF) -- A woman from Stockton caught quite a surprise while fishing in the Delta.

At first she thought the mean-looking fish on the end of her line was a piranha.

"It was like a big pan-sized perch. It was huge," said Cathy Blanc. "I said this looks like a piranha sorta kinda. Something's not right."

In fact Blanc caught a pacu, a relative of the piranha.

Wildlife experts think someone dumped the fish into the Delta because they're native to South America.

Pacu are illegal to own and require a special permit in California.

The fish looks intimidating, but is not considered dangerous.
