High Five: Bay Area Girl Helps Bring Latest Fashions To Teens In Need

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Bay Area teen Laura Graham is a typical 16-year-old who loves the latest styles, but she wanted to share that love with others who couldn't afford them. So, two years ago with the help of her mom, Laura started 1Closet, an effort to collect new or gently used clothes she gives to other teens

"I didn't really think about how good it was at first it just seemed like the right thing to do," Graham said.

Through donations and school clothing drives, Graham collected about 5,000 garments. She collects clothing for all sizes ages 12 to 17 which is a group she said is often overlooked.

"Some kids don't want to go to school because they simply don't feel comfortable in what they're wearing," Graham said. "They're how you represent yourself and how you come across to other people and they're really important for expressing yourself."

Once the clothes are sorted, 1Closet drops them off to the Boys and Girls Club of Oakland and Richmond, and Alameda County Foster Care.

"It makes me really happy to know that I'm helping someone," Graham said.
