Wildfire Awareness Week Begins With Warning Of Active Fire Season
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Wildfire Awareness Week kicks off Monday and emergency crews are ready for what's expected to be a very active fire season.
Fire officials say despite the heavy rainfall in March, the lack of rain during the winter has led to more wildfires statewide.
The Sacramento City Fire Department says overgrown dry brush has consumed much of the Valley.
"A small fire can easily spread to homes and kill people," said Sacramento City Fire Department Asst. Chief Niko King.
This is the thickest brush Sac City firefighters say they have seen in years.
In the last two months, Cal Fire has hired 2,400 seasonal firefighters.
