Wandering Bull Briefly Shuts Down Southbound I-5 In Dunnigan
DUNNIGAN (CBS13) – After several hours wandering on and off Interstate 5 in Dunnigan, an escaped bull has finally been corralled.
The bull was first spotted in the southbound land of I-5 near County Road 8 in Dunnigan around 3 a.m.
CHP officers responded and began trying to capture the 900 pound beast to no avail.
The bull eventually made its way to a rest stop where animal control officers were able to shoot it with a tranquilizer.
With the heavily sedated bull too wobbly to walk, the officers turned into cattle rustlers teaming up with animal control and a vet from UC Davis to assist the beast to an awaiting trailer.
When that didn't work, they resorted to Plan B. They decided they'd have to tow it out, hooking ropes onto a truck in the parking lot.
Dragging the bull, which was becoming more alert and irritated by the minute, was no easy task.
One of the ropes even snapped.
After several hours, the misbehaving bull was finally loaded into the trailer.
Officers believe the bull escaped from one of the many ranches in the area, but are not sure which one because the animal was not tagged.
