Virtual High School Open For Enrollment In El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) – Imagine getting your high school education without stepping inside a traditional classroom every day. Instead, you just wake up and log on.

El Dorado Union High School District is now accepting applications for its Virtual Academy at Shenandoah High School.

It offers online courses and contact with teachers through Skype and e-mail in what is described as a "comprehensive, individualized, and rigorous" high school education.

While much of the instruction is online, students do interact in person. Tests, labs and small group sessions are done face-to-face.

The Academy's director says the focus of the program is to get students ready for education beyond high school.

"If students actively pursue opportunities that are available at the Virtual Academy, they could complete one possibly two years of college by the time they graduate from high school," Virtual Academy at Shenandoah Director Debby Hanson explained.

The Virtual Academy is open to high school students both within El Dorado County and surrounding counties.

Enrollment is now underway but is limited to 100 students.

For more information, you can visit the academy's website at shs.eduhsd.k12.ca.us.
