Roseville Galleria Arson Suspect Indicted By Federal Grand Jury
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Alexander Piggee, the 23-year-old man accused of setting fires that caused millions of dollars in damage to the Westfield Roseville Galleria last October, has been has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of arson.
The indictment alleges that Piggee started the first fire at Wal-Mart at 4:30 a.m. on October 21, 2010. That fire caused only minor damage to the garden department. Later that day, he allegedly went to the Westfield Roseville Galleria where he went to the Game Stop, ordered a store employee to leave, and started a fire in the store room. The fire spread to the duct work and ultimately caused extensive damage to a large portion of the building. Damage from that fire is estimated at $55 million.
"After consulting with law enforcement partners in Placer and Sacramento counties, it was determined that a federal prosecution in which both arsons could be charged and prosecuted in a single proceeding was appropriate in this case," said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner.
The maximum penalty for each charge is 20 years in prison, with a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years.
Piggee is being held in the Placer County Jail.
