Rare Monoamniotic Identical Twin Girls Born On Leap Day At UC Davis Medical Center

DAVIS (CBS13) — A rare pair of twins was born on a rare day at the UC Davis Medical Center.

The identical twin girls, Isabella and Sofia, shared an amniotic sac, something that happens in about 1 percent of all twin pregnancies, or one in every 65,000 births.

UC Davis Medical Center says mom, Josefina Walker of Stockton, and the babies are doing fine.

The babies were born to Walker and her husband Greg on Feb. 29, something that only happens once every four years.
