Police: Missing 10-Year-Old Girl Safe After Hoax Disappearance, Mother Arrested

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A 10-year-old girl is safe after Sacramento police searched for eight hours to find her Tuesday.

Investigators are saying it was all a hoax set up by the girl's mom to make her ex look bad.

Shavaughn Vaughn and her boyfriend Antwan Holliday now face charges of obstructing police, conspiracy and making a false report of an emergency.

Officers booked them into the Sacramento County Jail Tuesday night.

It all started when Vaughn reported the girl missing late Tuesday morning, say police.

The 10-year-old had been camping with her father over the weekend.

Vaughn told police she thought her ex was hiding their daughter somewhere – all while the girl was actually in hiding with Vaughn's boyfriend. She maintained her story late into the search.

"I was at work, and I got a call," Vaughn said. "I have cameras, and my camera showed her at 10:55 a.m. At 10:56 a.m. we have no sign of her. We have no sign of her. We're just looking forward to bringing her home, please."

Police say there were no signs of foul play from the beginning. The whole matter took up a large amount of resources on both the ground and in the air.

The 10-year-old girl was not hurt.
