Police Arrest Woman Caught On Video Taking Packages From Citrus Heights Home
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - Police have arrested a woman caught on video allegedly stealing packages from homes in Citrus Heights.
On November 24 around 6 p.m., a woman walked up to the home and rang the doorbell. When no one came to the door, the woman picked up a package and put it in her bag. She waited around on the porch for a while, apparently looking for a good opportunity to take the remaining packages.
The woman then picks up a box, hides it behind a plant and leaves with another box.
After new outlets ran the story along with surveillance video of the incident, several people contacted police and provided tips. Those tips were investigated and eventually led police to a residence on Gold Run Avenue in Sacramento on Friday, where they arrested 39-year-old Donna Marie Sieverin of Sacramento, according to a Citrus Heights Police Department statement.
Sieverin is on probation for a burglary offence, which allowed police to search her residence. There they found stolen household items, packages and mail from at least 10 victims.
Police say Sieverin's arrest solves two burglary cases in Citrus Heights and could help solve two more in Sacramento and Placer counties.
The Citrus Heights Police Department urges people who order packages to have them shipped to a location where someone is present.
Police are actively using bait packages to stop thieves.
