Modesto Police To Start Wearing Cameras On The Job

MODESTO (CBS13) – Modesto Police officers are going high-tech to get an edge on crime.

Each officer and specialized units are getting a brand new so-called "cop camera."

The department showed off the new body-worn cameras that will record everything the officer sees.

The video can then be sent to a smartphone device.

"We see the benefits that it has: enhancing criminal investigations, increasing criminal convictions, and just as important, if not importantly, increasing the trust amongst the community because it aids in that transparency," said Rick Armendariz of the Modesto Police Department.

The department received grants to pay for the cameras. They plan to roll out the cameras next month.
