UPDATE: Police Confirm Missing Natomas Teen Now Considered A Runaway

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Natomas teenager who has been missing more than a week was spotted by a relative at the Yuba City Walmart store on Wednesday and is now considered a runaway, Sacramento police confirmed Thursday night.

The police department sent out a press release Thursday at about 5 p.m. confirming that Sergio Jimenez was spotted in the store by a relative and that his aunt confirmed his identity from store surveillance footage.

Police saturated the area on Thursday but were unable to locate Jimenez. Yuba City police are now assisting with searching for him.

CBS13 first reported earlier Thursday that Jimenez's principal at Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep said Jimenez was indeed the person spotted in the surveillance footage.

Jimenez, 17, was last seen on the charter school campus on Nov. 2, and police had been combing the surrounding area for any sign of him. The principal, Tom Nutten, said Jimenez was seen not wearing his glasses and without his backpack inside the Yuba City Walmart, leading him to believe Jimenez has been staying with someone in the Yuba City area.

Police got word on Wednesday night that Jimenez may have been spotted at the Walmart in Yuba City around 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, volunteers searched a drainage ditch in Natomas for any signs of the missing teen in case he may have fallen into the water if he had crossed the nearby field while walking home from school last week.

Also, worried community members had been planning to hold a candlelight vigil for Jimenez at Peregrine Park in North Natomas at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, which has now been canceled.
