Man Shot By Police After Hotel Dispute

RICHMOND (AP) — Richmond authorities say police have shot and wounded a man reported to have a gun at a hotel near a shopping mall.

Police tell KGO-TV that the victim and a clerk at the Extended Stay Hotel near Hilltop Mall were engaged in a dispute Wednesday afternoon when a construction worker saw a gun in the 22-year-old man's waistband.

Police arrived on the scene and shot the suspect when he tried to run across the street toward another hotel. The victim's name was not released.

Richmond police Lt. Bisa French says the man was transported to a nearby hospital and is likely to survive.

One officer is being placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
