Man Accused Of Crashing Into Brother's Home

DELHI, Calif. (CBS13) -- An ongoing dispute between two brothers allegedly ended when a 40-year-old man rammed his vehicle into his brother's home, trapping the man in the wreckage, authorities said.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department said Gene Hinds backed his red minivan into the garage of his brother's home on the 9000 block of Hillside Road, pushing the resident's vehicle through a wall shortly after 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was eating lunch when the vehicle crashed through the wall, pinning him underneath the car and the debris. Authorities said Hinds called emergency dispatchers to notify them his brother was trapped and then drove away from the scene.

Deputies stopped and detained Hinds a short distance away after noticing damage to the rear of his vehicle.

It took 20 to 30 minutes for emergency crews to extricate the victim from the wreckage and transport him to a hospital in Turlock. His condition has not been released.

Authorities said they responded to reports that Hinds had made "terrorist threats" against his brother on Tuesday but had not been able to locate him before Wednesday's incident.
