Fatal Shooting At Sacramento Hotel May Have Been Self-Defense
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Sacramento Police are investigating whether a fatal shooting overnight at a converted hotel was self-defense.
Police were called to the 1900 block of Canterbury Road to the Canterbury Hotel just before 1:00 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old man dead inside one of the units which have been converted into apartments.
Investigators say the incident started as a fight between two friends who had been drinking. A downstairs hotel resident came out and broke up the fight and then went back to his room.
A little later, the 29-year-old came down to the neighbor's room, broke out a window and went inside, according to police. The 29-year-old was shot when he broke into the room.
The man who shot the victim stayed at the scene and was detained by police, but has not been arrested as the police continue to investigate the shooting.
