Driver Killed, Passenger Wounded In CHP Shooting
STOCKTON (CBS13) – A suspect was killed and a passenger wounded after the driver who led police on a short pursuit through Stockton drove into a patrol cruiser Saturday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said two officers attempted to make a traffic stop on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Stockton at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, but the subject's vehicle refused to stop and sped away.
The driver crashed through a fence after losing control near the intersection of Wilson Way a short distance later, and officers ordered the man to exit the car.
The suspect allegedly put the car in reverse and accelerated into the officers' vehicle, and both officers opened fire, police said.
The driver was fatally wounded and died at the scene, and a female passenger was critically wounded and transported to the local hospital. She is expected to survive.
