Downtown Sacramento scooter enforcement sweep sees police pull over dozens of riders
SACRAMENTO – Officers were out in force in Downtown Sacramento on Thursday to focus on scooter riders who have been skirting the law.
Sacramento police say detectives with their Major Collision Investigation Unit and with motorcycle officers went on a scooter enforcement mission Thursday evening.
The operation saw officers make a total of 69 stops, resulting in 23 citations being given out. Officers also gave 45 scooter riders "educational advisements," police say.
One person was also arrested during the operation after officers found they had a felony warrant out.
Exactly what infractions were given out the most was not detailed by police, but scooter riders should be aware of a number of laws in particular.
Motorized scooter riders in California are required to use bicycle lanes or paths, not sidewalks. Riders also cannot go more than 15 mph.
